Built from the ground up, United Places Hotel Botanic Gardens was conceived by internationally-recognised design firm CARR. Inspired by the clean-lined minimalist aesthetic of brutalism, the architectural strength of the property lies in its sandblasted concrete and bronze-trimmed form.
With a façade lined in blackened vertical steel blades, the thought-provoking design takes advantage of its verdant northern aspect, albeit with carefully considered sightlines that embrace the view without forsaking guest privacy. South facing suites feature views out to the patinaed neighbourhood rooftops and laneways of South Yarra. A central oculus has been positioned to embrace daylight and ventilation.
With its evocative palette of authentic, elemental materials, dark timber battens and steel louvres, United Places Hotel Botanic Gardens is a rich, robust presence juxtaposed against an elegant, leafy setting beautifully attuned to the outdoors.
Awarded the Best Hospitality Design at the prestigious Australian Interior Design Awards 2019, United Places Hotel Botanic Gardens spotlights contemporary interior design at its best.
Pairing design classics with modern furniture, rooms are outfitted with iconic, Italian-made pieces from the likes of Moroso, Patricia Urquiola and Grant Featherston, as well as locally made pieces by Wootten and Apparent.
Crafted with the philosophy of privacy and sanctuary in mind, moody materials and soft furnishings are a rich expression of indulgent fabrics in navy quilting, plum velvet drapes and sumptuous organic linen. Designed to offer a reprieve from the city, sunken stone bathtubs have been integrated into one way window alcoves that look out to breathtaking panoramic views.
Public spaces have been minimised in favour of generous suites with everyday functionalities like kitchenettes, study nooks and impressive ‘room within a room’ bathroom pods.
